Stock up - Freeze Your Juices for Later Use
How to Stock up on Juices for Later Use!
At Medea’s all of our juices are organic and raw, we do not utilize processes such as “HPP,” or any other form of pasteurization, to extend shelf life. Studies show that the juices will retain much of their nutritional integrity for at least 3 days after the press date. According to health department standards the juices are safe to consume for 6 days after press date. Store-bought juices utilize some form of pasteurization and have a shelf life that can be 50 days. If a juice has a 50-day shelf life, is it a raw juice? We think not!
There is a way to enjoy our raw juices at your convenience, FREEZE THEM!
A study of cold pressed juices by Michael Donaldson Ph.D. in 2007 for Halleluiah Acres Foundation found little discernable difference in enzymatic activity after freezing. The study also concluded that nutrient retention would closely follow enzymatic activity.
So freezing “Stops the Clock” - the clock starts again once thawed.
IMPORTANT Instructions for freezing:
- Drink or remove some of the juice from the bottle prior to freezing. If you do not remove some of the juice the bottle is likely to rupture during freezing. Remove juice until it is at the bottom of the rounded shoulder at the top of the bottle.
- Freeze bottles standing upright.
IMPORTANT Instructions for thawing:
- Thaw juices in your refrigerator a day ahead of consuming. Hint for faster thawing: Put the frozen juice in a pitcher of water in the refrigerator and it will thaw much quicker.
- Thaw the juice completely before consuming. Water thaws quicker than minerals, if you consume a partially frozen juice the flavor profile will not be consistent.
- The juices will separate after thawing, this is normal, simply shake the juice before consuming.
